The Glastonbury Festival Dragon Has been Sold
A unique opportunity to acquire one of the only semi permanent Glastonbury festival sculptures.
Originally carved in 2006 he has stood through the last 3 festivals and will enjoy this year’s event also.
Carved out of a lightning struck oak tree from the West Country, the dragon has contributed greatly to the magical atmosphere of the Green Fields and has staged a host of events such as the wedding of Emily Eavis (daughter of the festival organiser), dance shows and many a late night Pilton jam.

In 2008 Banksy was commissioned to make an exhibit adjacent to the sculpture (the infamous porta loo stone henge) so has had incidental and deliberate media coverage.
He stands at 29 feet from the base to the tip of his nose and incorporates a 20 foot diameter octagonal stage with 8 large carvings on all corners. There is a large, wide stair case on the entrance. There are 2 hemispherical crystals for eyes, which, with the right angle of light, sparkle brightly. He has a spiked collar made from steel and copper with two lengths of heavy gauge chain ,symbolically broken to emphasise freedom.

All the timber used has come from the west country(within 100 miles of the site)from sustainable sources and milled by one of the craftsmen involved. With a functional sculpture like this there are always options to add extra elements, ie wing coverings, lighting , smoke etc these could be added if the budget is available.
The new owner would have to be aware that the transportation and erection costs will vary significantly depending on final location, access and finishing of the piece. The Dragon weighs 7.5 tonnes and requires a 50 tonne crane to erect the centre piece. Along with the stage and outer posts the combined weight probably comes in at 20 tonnes. To put a price on this is very hard. The hours of labour and love were enormous. All bids will be treated in confidence.Price on application.
